On Monday (August 25) morning, several areas in Delhi and the neighboring National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rains. There were heavy downpours in places like Baba Khadak Singh Marg, ITO, and the Yamuna River.
“Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain in Delhi today,” said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Rainfall also caused waterlogging in several parts of Gurugram.
Delhi, Chandigarh, and Haryana weather
According to the IMD, a “Heavy rain” warning has been issued for Delhi, Chandigarh, and Haryana for today and tomorrow.
Mumbai rains
Rainfall also lashed several parts of Mumbai, causing waterlogging in Sion’s Gandhi Market area and Eastern Express Highway. IMD has issued no warning for today, but a “Heavy Rainfall” warning has been issued for August 26-27.
Moreover, heavy rains lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhaderwah, bringing normal life to a standstill. Continuous downpour triggered waterlogging in low-lying areas and increased the risk of landslides along hilly roads.
Authorities have appealed to people to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from rivers and landslide-prone areas. The administration is closely monitoring the situation.
Schools closed in these regions
Due to heavy rain, the administration ordered the closure of all government and private schools in Doda District. Bhaderwah-Bani-Basohli-Pathankot & Bhaderwah-Chamba roads are also closed due to heavy rains, leaving yatris halted.
Moreover, the water level in the river of Banswara district of Rajasthan rose due to heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall also led to the Sangameshwar Temple being submerged in the floodwater. Devotees climb to the top of the temple to perform aarti. However, teachers and staff of schools and Anganwadis are required to attend work as usual.
Heavy rain alert in Rajasthan
Schools in 19 districts of Rajasthan were closed on Monday following a heavy rain alert. Continuous heavy rainfall has severely affected normal life in the state for the last two days.
In view of the weather situation, the Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert in 16 districts of the state on Monday, prompting the administration to declare holidays in schools. As a precautionary step, government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centres in 19 districts, are closed for students for the day.
According to official orders, schools will remain closed on Monday in Sikar, Karauli, Kota, Khairthal-Tijara, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Kotputli-Baharod, Sirohi, Bundi, Bhilwara, Udaipur and Sawai Madhopur.
Apart from these, holidays of multiple days have also been announced in other districts depending on weather conditions.
Schools will remain closed for three days in Tonk from Monday to Wednesday, while in Alwar, Jaipur, Dausa, Nagaur and Didwana-Kuchaman, schools will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday. Sikar, Karauli, Kota, Khairthal-Tijara, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Kotputli-Baharod, Sirohi, Bundi, Bhilwara, Udaipur, and Sawai Madhopur are closed on Monday.
The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in 16 districts.
An orange alert has been issued for Udaipur, Rajsamand and Sirohi, where very heavy rainfall is expected. A yellow alert has been declared for Alwar, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Jhunjhunu, Pratapgarh, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali and Sri Ganganagar.
Authorities have urged people to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel in rain-affected areas.
Gujarat weather
Gujarat continues to witness heavy monsoon showers, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing multiple alerts across the state.
Since early Monday morning, several areas of Ahmedabad have reported intense rainfall.
The IMD has sounded a red alert for Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli districts, while an orange alert has been issued for 21 districts.
According to the IMD, orange alerts are in place for Kutch, Surendranagar, Patan, Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Bharuch, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, Valsad, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman. A yellow alert has been issued for other districts.
Forecast for August 26-27
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in more than 20 districts, including Sabarkantha, Patan, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Bharuch, Botad, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Tapi, Dang, and Vadodara.
Forecast for August 28-30
From August 28 to 30, the IMD has forecast widespread heavy rainfall across Kutch, Morbi, Surendranagar, Patan, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, and Narmada districts.
