The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, Prahlad Joshi, has alleged that the campaign against Dharmasthala temple is part of a Congress conspiracy targeting the majority community.

Addressing the ‘Dharmasthala chalo’ rally organised by the BJP in Dharmasthala on Monday, he said minority appeasement is in the blood of Congress. When terrorists attacked Mumbai in 2008, Congress tried to project it as an attack by some Hindus, he said, adding, this was done to appease minorities.

The BJP had organised the ‘Dharmasthala chalo’ rally to seek probe by the Central agencies such as CBI or NIA to inquire into the ‘conspiracy’ against the Dharmasthala temple. The Karnataka government has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala between 1995 and 2014.

On SIT’s decision to dig near Bahubali betta (where the statue of Lord Bahubali is located) in Dharmasthala as part of the investigation, he asked if the State government would have allowed to dig near the places of worship by other religions in such situations.

BY Vijayendra, President of the Karnataka BJP, questioned the State government for constituting the SIT in the alleged mass burials even before conducting an inquiry of the complainant. A probe by the central agencies would help unearth the ‘conspiracy’ behind targeting Dharmasthala temple, he said.

Even the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, had opined that there was a conspiracy behind the Dharmasthala case, he said.

On Sunday, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, youth wing leader of Janata Dal (Secular), had said there has been conspiracy against Dharmasthala and sought an investigation by the Central agencies in this case. He was speaking at the ‘Satya Yatra’ taken out by the party.

He said the State government should have investigated when the masked man (complainant in the alleged mass burials case) brought the skeletal remains. Suspecting that there could be a big institution behind the whole issue, he said this has to be investigated by a Central agency.
