Pahalgam Terror Attack, Operation Mahadev: In a major announcement in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday informed the House that the three terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack had been eliminated in a joint operation conducted near Srinagar.

The operation, named Operation Mahadev, was carried out by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: All three Linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba

Speaking during the special discussion on Operation Sindoor, Shah identified the three slain terrorists as Suleman alias Faizal, Afghani and Jibran. He said all of them were associated with the Pakistan-based proscribed group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

“While Suleman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Afghani was also an A-category Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, Jibran too was a notorious and wanted terrorist. All these three terrorists involved in the killing of our citizens at Baisaran valley in Pahalgam have now been eliminated,” he told the parliament.

Shah said individuals who had earlier been detained for providing support to the terrorists were brought in to confirm their identities.

“People who used to supply food, provide shelter to the terrorists were detained earlier. Once the bodies of these terrorists were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those who were detained by our agencies,” he said.

Weapons recovered from the terrorists, including M-9 and AK-47 rifles, were flown to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Chandigarh on Monday night for examination. The lab matched the ammunition used during the Pahalgam attack with test-firing results from the recovered weapons.

“The empty cartridges found at Pahalgam and those after test firing by the recovered guns were matched by the forensic lab,” Shah said. The home minister also mentioned that he personally received the ballistic report.

“Six forensic experts have confirmed to me on a video call this morning that these are the same bullets used in the Pahalgam attack,” he said. He added that Pakistani voter IDs belonging to two of the slain terrorists were found along with chocolates manufactured in Pakistan and weapons.

After the Pahalgam attack, security forces were directed to ensure the attackers did not escape the country.

Describing the attack as barbaric, Shah said that innocent civilians were targeted with extreme cruelty. “Innocent civilians were brutally killed in front of their families after being asked about their religion and were murdered with extreme cruelty,” he said.

The home minister also extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the Pahalgam attack and those affected by Pakistani shelling. He said several civilians had lost their lives and some religious sites, including gurdwaras and temples, were damaged.

‘Operation Mahadev’

In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, Indian security forces on Monday gunned down three Pakistani terrorists in an encounter in the forested Lidwas area near Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, codenamed “Operation Mahadev”, was launched after intelligence inputs and technical surveillance indicated terrorist movement in the region.
