After beating England 3-2 in the five-match Youth ODI series, India will look to continue the winning momentum in the longest format when the two teams face off in the first Youth Test at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham from Saturday.
The 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who struck the fastest known Youth ODI century in the recently concluded white-ball series, will want to continue his rich vein of form. The left-hander had showcased his ability in red-ball cricket last year against Australia by cracking the second-fastest ton in Youth Tests.
India will be led by Ayush Mhatre, who will need to turn his batting form around after only eking out 27 runs in four matches in the ODI leg of the tour. With the ball, off-spinner Kanish Chouhan and medium-pacer RS Ambrish, India’s highest wicket-takers in the ODIs, could be key.
England U-19 skipper Thomas Rew, who amassed 280 runs in five matches in the white-ball series, will be instrumental if the host wants to mount a comeback in the longest format.
