 ‘Digital arrest’ threat; Jharkhand man held

The Cyber Crime Wing police have arrested a person from Jharkhand for threatening an aged woman of ‘digital arrest’ and extracting ₹50 lakh from her.

An official statement said unidentified persons, who contacted an old woman, introduced themselves as CBI officers and told her that ₹2 crore had been transacted for human trafficking using an account opened in a bank in Mumbai with her Aadhaar card. As they demanded ₹50 lakh to with the ‘digital arrest’ , the lady transferred the money.

When the strangers demanded more money, she filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Wing which arrested five persons recently and remanded them in judicial custody.

Since the kingpin of this team U. Rituraj Jaiswal, 43, from Jharkhand went underground, a special team was dispatched to nab him. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police Albert John has appealed to the public not to fall prey to these fraudsters and inform the police immediately in case of any digital arrest threat.
