The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple zones in the national capital, including Central, East, South and New Delhi. The alert comes as moderate rainfall is expected across several parts of the city over the next 2-3 hours.
The weather office has urged residents to remain indoors, avoid taking shelter under trees or weak structures, and stay updated on road and traffic conditions. Travellers have been advised to carry umbrellas or raincoats while stepping out.

Rain lashes Delhi, airport issues advisory
Several parts of Delhi witnessed spells of rain today, offering much-needed relief from humid conditions. Earlier in the day, the Delhi Airport authority issued a passenger advisory following IMD’s forecast of inclement weather.
“As per the Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast, inclement weather conditions are expected in Delhi. However, flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently normal. For the latest flight information, passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines,” the Delhi Airport said in the passenger advisory on X.

Wet spell continues in Northwest India
The national capital has been witnessing rain showers for the past few days. Earlier this week, heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi, leading to waterlogging in pockets of the city.
According to IMD’s August 28 forecast, “Isolated heavy rainfall likely to continue over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan during next 7 days; Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana during August 29-September 2; West Rajasthan on August 30-31; West Uttar Pradesh during August 31-September 2; East Uttar Pradesh on September 1-2 with isolated very heavy rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand on August 28-29, September 1-2 and East Rajasthan on August 31.”
The weather agency has also predicted that light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, will continue across several parts of Northwest India, including Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.Meanwhile, IMD said monsoon activity is set to stay active over Punjab and Haryana for the next three to four days, bringing more showers to districts that have already recorded excess rainfall.
