'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Trailer

The first trailer for ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is online.
It sees our heroes facing more human threats and an aggressive new Na’vi tribe.
The movie is on screens on December 19th.

Even as smartasses make jokes about “oh, the ‘Avatar’ movies are still a thing?”, along comes James Cameron every few years with a fine-tooled new entry in the franchise that audiences lap up to the tune of more than a billion dollars.

It has been another lengthy wait for the third outing, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, but Cameron and his team will transport us back to Pandora at the end of the year.

Originally screened just in theaters in front of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, this past weekend, the first full trailer is now online for all to see.

While the new footage doesn’t say too much about the exact story, there’s certainly a mood of conflict and angst going on here. But more on that in a moment…

What’s the story of ‘’Avatar: Fire and Ash’?

Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldana) family grapples with grief after Neteyam’s death, encountering a new, aggressive Na’vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang (Oona Chaplin).

The conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges.

What happens in the new ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ trailer?

As we mentioned above, the trailer is much more vibes-based that straight out narrative, with a few scant –– but impactful –– pieces of dialogue but plenty of the spectacle that we’ve come to expect from these movies.

We have Miles “Spider” Socorro (Jack Champion) seemingly getting into life-threatening trouble.

And, of course, a real look at the Ash people, the warlike Na’vi with vengeance on their minds after their territory is wiped out by a volcanic eruption.

Also interestingly, what looks like a scene of Na’vi and others being captured and taken to Earth, with Cameron having said previously that the story will reach our planet at some point following the brief glimpse at the start of the 2009 movie.

There’s Jake telling his wife not to give into hate, and here’s what Saldana told Empire about her character’s feelings this time around:

“Not only would everything that’s happening compel her to question the bond she has with her husband, but also her bond with herself, her people, her land, and the way the Na’vi are. She’s going to question everything.”

Plus some new creatures, old enemies and all the lush visuals you want from an ‘Avatar’ movie (even if some of the high frame rate footage does sometimes look odd).
