More than 1,00,000 pilgrims have completed the Amarnath Yatra to the Himalayan cave shrine within the first six days of the annual pilgrimage amid heightened security following a deadly terror attack in April.

“The journey of faith, holy Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has surpassed 1 lakh pilgrims within the first six days of pilgrimage,” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha posted on social media platform X on Tuesday evening.

He said the yatra was progressing seamlessly on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. “The spiritual festivity and Yatra is continuing smoothly on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes and expected to draw more devotees in the days to come,” he added.

The annual pilgrimage, which leads to a shrine located at an altitude of 13,700 feet, began on July 3 and will conclude on August 9. It is taking place under a heavy security cover following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 tourists and a local worker.

Authorities have implemented a three-tier security system at the base camps and declared the yatra routes as no-fly zones. Security forces are carrying out area domination drills and mock exercises to stay prepared for any contingency.

A total of 180 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed along with additional police personnel.

All service providers associated with the yatra have been verified, officials said.

The security arrangements are being regularly reviewed to ensure the safe conduct of the pilgrimage. On Tuesday, Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), G P Singh, visited the Amarnath Yatra camps and inspected the security preparedness.

“During his journey along the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra route from Jammu to Srinagar, DG CRPF Shri G P Singh reviewed the security preparedness firsthand,” the CRPF posted on X.
