Valmiki Jayanthi celebrated in Karnataka’s Shivamogga

The Shivamogga district administration celebrated Valmiki Jayanthi with a procession, a stage programme, and the naming of a circle after Maharshi Valmiki in Shivamogga on Tuesday.

The circle on Holehonnur Road was named after the Maharshi, while a procession was held from the Science Field on B.H. Road to Valmiki Bhavan, where a programme was held to mark the occasion. The procession included performances by folk troupes.

Addressing the gathering at Valmiki Bhavan, MLA for Shivamogga S.N. Channabasappa stated that Adikavi Maharshi’s contribution to Indian poetry was unparalleled. The poet, through his characters, advocated for values such as humanity, equality, compassion, brotherhood, sacrifice, and the importance of upholding dharma, Mr. Channabasappa said.

The MLA opined that Lord Rama was not a fictional character, but present in reality. Through his character, Valmiki had presented an ideal way of life, Mr. Channabasappa said.

D.S. Arun and Balkhees Banu, MLCs; G. Pallavi, Karnataka Alemari and Are-Alemari Development Corporation chairperson; Chetan Gowda, Karnataka State Textile Infrastructure Development Corporation chairperson; and other officials were present.
