Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday flagged off a relief train carrying 400 tonnes of food items and 70 tonnes of medicines for people of flood-affected Punjab.
The train with 22 wagons was flagged off from Gandhinagar railway station this morning. The food items shipped include wheat flour, onions, potatoes, rice, groundnut oil, sugar and milk powder, according to an official government statement. The train locomotives and the wagons had posters with images of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The posters read, “Relief materials from Gujarat government for the flood-affected in Punjab”. The message was written in Punjabi, Gujarati and Hindi.
Among other flood-relief items sent to Punjab include 10000 tents, 10000 mosquito nets and 10000 bedsheets. Gujarat government has already sent cheques of ₹5 crore each to the chief ministers of flood-affected Punjab and Chattishgarh.
CM Patel is also expected to visit flood affected regions of Banaskantha district in North Gujarat along with Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shanker Chaudhary. Several parts of Banaskantha, Patan and Kutch districts have been adversely hit by heavy rains in the last few days.
