The Star Cable Climper, developed by Star Infomatic, is addressing the challenges of installing and maintaining overhead wires, and its adoption in Hyderabad is gaining traction.

The device consists of a 20-foot extendable fibreglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) pole that allows a single technician to bundle and align live overhead cables from the ground. This can be done without shutting down services, climbing ladders or using bucket trucks.

This ground-level operation not only improves worker safety but also significantly reduces the time and resources required for routine maintenance.

Hyderabad has become the first Indian city to adopt the Star Cable Climper, an indigenously developed tool designed to quickly and safely organise and manage overhead tangled cables.

The adoption follows a recent initiative by the city’s power department to remove loose overhead wires, which resulted in the disruption of internet, cable TV, and CCTV services to homes and businesses.

Telcos place 100+ orders for the Climper

In response to this, telecom operators including GTPL, Hathway, Airtel and several local vendors moved quickly, collectively placing over 100 orders for the Climper within days, said the company.

The rapid procurement marks a shift towards more structured and preventive cable management practices in the city.

With underground cabling projects requiring months of work and hefty budgets, the Climper offers a rapid alternative that can be deployed immediately.

It helps reduce visual clutter, prevent accidental line cuts and support ongoing maintenance without disrupting public or private services.

Hyderabad’s swift embrace of the Star Cable Climper could set a precedent for other Indian cities facing similar infrastructure challenges, said Star Infomatic.
