Mumbai: Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre has launched the OMEGA 3T MRI, the first of its kind in Mumbai. The new system was inaugurated by trustees Rajiv Mehta and Prashant Mehta in the presence of senior doctors, management and staff.
According to the hospital, the OMEGA 3T MRI features the world’s first 75 cm ultra-wide bore, designed to improve comfort for claustrophobic, elderly, pediatric and bariatric patients. It also incorporates Silent MRI Technology to reduce acoustic noise and AI-powered imaging for faster, sharper scans.
It is indicated that the system completes scans in 10–12 minutes compared to the conventional 30–40 minutes, with speeds up to 36 times faster than standard MRI. This allows clinicians to capture highly detailed images quickly, reducing patient discomfort and motion artifacts—particularly useful in pediatric and emergency cases.
Capable of full-body imaging across neurology, cardiology, oncology, orthopedics and other specialties, the machine also supports patients up to 300 kg and uses automated tools to cut setup time.
The MRI suite will operate 24×7 with patient-friendly features such as calming lighting, ventilation, music and sedation options for children or anxious patients.
