Delhi traffic advisory: Routes to avoid ahead of Janmashtami celebrations

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory ahead of Shri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations on August 16, warning of traffic diversions and restrictions in parts of south and southeast Delhi due to expected large gatherings at the ISKCON Temple in East of Kailash.

Key restrictions and diversions:

Raja Dheer Sen Marg, between Captain Gaur Marg and Sant Nagar Traffic Signal, will be pedestrian-only during the festivities. Only bonafide residents’ vehicles will be allowed entry between Captain Gaur Marg T-point and Sant Nagar.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Captain Gaur Marg, Outer Ring Road, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.

Heavy, medium, and light goods vehicles will be restricted on key stretches from 8 AM on August 16 to 2 AM on August 17.

Suggested metro route:

Devotees and visitors are urged to avoid private vehicles and instead use public transport. Those arriving via metro should alight at NSIC Okhla Metro Station and proceed to the temple via Captain Gaur Marg.

Traffic diversions:

Vehicles from Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Inner Ring Road) to Captain Gaur Marg Crossing will be diverted to Ashram or Moolchand.

Those approaching from Outer Ring Road to Captain Gaur Marg Crossing will be rerouted via Modi Mill Flyover.

Traffic from Paras Chowk (Outer Ring Road) will be diverted to Modi Mill Flyover or Chirag Dilli, while vehicles from BRT Central School Flyover will be directed toward Chirag Dilli.

The advisory emphasised public cooperation and requested commuters to follow signage and on-ground instructions to ensure a peaceful and smooth celebration, which will see attendance from thousands, including VIPs and dignitaries.

Separately, the Delhi Traffic Police has also announced traffic restrictions in Rohini on August 17 for a special programme. Roads affected include Bhagwan Mahavir Road, Bawana Road, Kanjhawala Road, Kanjhawala Link Road, and Badsha Dahiya Marg.
