Kerala University Registrar K.S. Anilkumar has approached the Kerala High Court, challenging his continued suspension, despite the university’s Syndicate revoking it.
The Registrar has further sought that the court quash orders issued by the Vice-Chancellor that prevents him from rejoining duty. The suspension order was issued on July 2, after the Registrar reportedly directed the cancellation of an event at the university’s Senate Hall following a row over displaying a photo of ‘Bharat Matha’.
‘New orders issued’
In the order, he was accused of procedural irregularities and mismanagement, leading to ‘unrest’ on the university campus. After the Syndicate revoked his suspension, the V-C issued fresh orders stating that the Registrar remained under suspension. He also reportedly directed university officials to refrain from forwarding files to the Registrar.
Terming the orders illegal, improper, arbitrary and discriminatory, the Registrar stated in his plea that the V-C can only act within university statutes. He lacked independent authority to suspend him, since the ‘Syndicate appoints the Registrar’.
