10 Tasmac bars sealed for selling liquor on October 2

A total of 10 bars attached to liquor outlets of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) were sealed on Friday after they were found selling liquor on Thursday, which was a dry day in view of Gandhi Jayanthi.

The 10 bars were found violating the regulation when the Coimbatore District (Rural) Police conducted a drive against illegal sale of liquor on Thursday. Out of the 10 bars, four are in Perur sub-division, three in Karumathampatti and one each in Periyanaickenpalayam, Valparai and Mettupalayam.

A total of 936 bottles of liquor and 77 litres of toddy were seized in the drive initiated by Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan. As many as 37 persons, who worked in the 10 bars and stocked the liquor in advance for illegal sale, were arrested.
